In Sparta Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH IJKLMN OJJJPF

He didn't know King Kleomenis he didn't dareA
he just did not know how to tell his motherB
a thing like this that Ptolemy demandedC
to guarantee their treaty that she too go to EgyptD
and be held there as a hostageE
a very humiliating indecorous thingF
And he would be about to speak yet always hesitateG
would start to tell her yet always stopH
-
But the magnificent woman understood himI
she had already heard some rumors about itJ
and she encouraged him to come out with it clearlyK
And she laughed saying of course she would goL
indeed was happy that in her old ageM
she could be useful to Sparta stillN
-
As for the humiliation that didn't touch her at allO
Of course an upstart like the LagidJ
couldn't possibly comprehend the Spartan spiritJ
so his demand could not in fact humiliateJ
a Royal Lady like herselfP
mother of a Spartan kingF
