In 200 B.c. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCADEAEFGA H AHIHI JGAKLM AACAAANA O

Alexander son of Philip and the Greeks except the LacedaemoniansA
-
We can very well imagineB
that they were utterly indifferent in SpartaC
to this inscription Except the LacedaemoniansA
but naturally The Spartans were notD
to be led and ordered aboutE
as precious servants BesidesA
a panhellenic campaign withoutE
a Spartan king as a leaderF
would not have appeared very importantG
O of course except the LacedaemoniansA
-
This too is a stand UnderstandableH
-
Thus except the Lacedaemonians at GranicusA
and then at Issus and in the finalH
battle where the formidable army was swept awayI
that the Persians had massed at ArbelaH
which had set out from Arbela for victory and was swept awayI
-
And out of the remarkable panhellenic campaignJ
victorious brilliantG
celebrated gloriousA
as no other had ever been glorifiedK
the incomparable we emergedL
a great new Greek worldM
-
We the Alexandrians the AntiocheansA
the Seleucians and the numerousA
rest of the Greeks of Egypt and SyriaC
and of Media and Persia and the many othersA
With our extensive territoriesA
with the varied action of thoughtful adaptationsA
And the Common Greek LanguageN
we carried to the heart of Bactria to the IndiansA
-
As if we were to talk of Lacedaemonians nowO
