If Actually Dead Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGDHDDIJEDDEEED EDDD DKCEELMNND

Where did the Sage withdraw to where did he disappearA
After his many miraclesB
the renown of his teachingC
which spread to so many countriesD
he suddenly hid himself and nobody knew for certainE
what happened to himF
nor did anybody ever see his graveG
Some reported that he died at EphesusD
But Damis does not record that in his memoirH
Damis says nothing about the death of ApolloniosD
Others said that he disappeared at LindosD
Or maybe the story is trueI
about his assumption in CreteJ
at the ancient sanctuary of DiktynnaE
But then again we have that miraculousD
that supernatural apparition of hisD
before a young student at TyanaE
Maybe the time has not yet come for him to returnE
and show himself to the world againE
or maybe transfigured he moves among usD
unrecognized But he will come againE
as he was teaching the ways of truth and then of courseD
he will bring back the worship of our godsD
and our elegant Hellenic ritesD
-
These were the musings of one of the few pagansD
one of the very few still leftK
as he sat in his shabby room just after readingC
Philostratos' On Apollonios of TyanaE
But even he a trivial and cowardly manE
played the Christian in public and went to churchL
It was the time when Justin known as the elderM
reigned in total pietyN
and Alexandria a godly cityN
detested pitiful idolatorsD
