From The School Of The Renowned Philosopher Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA ABAC DEFGAHAA IJK LMN OPAQPP

For two years he studied with Ammonios SakkasA
but he was bored by both philosophy and SakkasA
-
Then he went into politicsA
But he gave that up That Prefect was an idiotB
and those around him somber faced officious nitwitsA
their Greek poor fools absolutely barbaricC
-
After that he becameD
vaguely curious about the Church to be baptizedE
and pass as a Christian But he soonF
changed his mind it would certainly have caused a rowG
with his parents ostentatious pagansA
and horrible thoughtH
they would have cut off at onceA
their extremely generous allowanceA
-
But he had to do something He began to hauntI
the corrupt houses of AlexandriaJ
every secret den of debaucheryK
-
In this fortune favored himL
he d been given an extremely handsome figureM
And he enjoyed the divine giftN
-
His looks would lastO
at least another ten years And after thatP
Maybe he ll go back to SakkasA
Or if the old man has died meanwhileQ
he ll go to another philosopher or sophistP
there s always someone suitable aroundP
