Footsteps Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE BFBCBGBBBHGGBB

On an ebony bed decoratedA
with coral eagles sound asleep liesB
Nero unconscious quiet and blissfulC
thriving in the vigor of fleshD
and in the splendid power of youthE
-
But in the alabaster hall that enclosesB
the ancient shrine of the AenobarbiF
how restive are his LaresB
The little household gods trembleC
and try to hide their insignificant bodiesB
For they heard a horrible clamorG
a deathly clamor ascending the stairsB
iron footsteps rattling the stairsB
And now in a faint the miserable LaresB
burrow in the depth of the shrineH
one tumbles and stumbles upon the otherG
one little god falls over the otherG
for they understand what sort of clamor this isB
they are already feeling the footsteps of the FuriesB
