Exiles Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKFLBMLFFNF MEFLOPE

It goes on being Alexandria still Just walk a bitA
along the straight road that ends at the HippodromeB
and you'll see palaces and monuments that will amaze youC
Whatever war damage it's sufferedD
however much smaller it's becomeE
it's still a wonderful cityF
And then what with excursions and booksG
and various kinds of study time does go byH
In the evenings we meet on the sea frontI
the five of us all naturally under fictitious namesJ
and some of the few other GreeksK
still left in the cityF
Sometimes we discuss church affairsL
the people here seem to lean toward RomeB
and sometimes literatureM
The other day we read some lines by NonnosL
what imagery what rhythm what diction and harmonyF
All enthusiasm how we admired the PanopolitanF
So the days go by and our stay hereN
isn't unpleasant because naturallyF
it's not going to last foreverM
We've had good news if something doesn't comeE
of what's now afoot in SmyrnaF
then in April our friends are sure to move from EpirosL
so one way or another our plans are definitely working outO
and we'll easily overthrow BasilP
And when we do at last our turn will comeE
