Kratisiklia didn't deign to allowA
the people to see her weeping and grievingB
she walked in dignity and in silenceC
Her calm face betrayed nothingB
of her sorrow and her agonyD
But even so for a moment she couldn't hold backE
before she went aboard the detestable ship for AlexandriaF
she took her son to Poseidon's templeG
and once they were aloneH
she embraced him tenderly and kissed himI
he was in great distress says Plutarch badly shakenJ
But her strong character struggled throughK
regaining her poise the magnificent womanJ
said to Kleomenis Come O King of the LacedaimoniansC
when we go outsideL
let no one see us weepingB
or behaving in any way unworthy of SpartaF
At least this is still in our powerM
what lies ahead is in the hands of the godsC
-
And she boarded the ship going toward whatever lay in theF
hands of the godsC
