The Alexandrians were gatheredA
to see Cleopatra's childrenB
Caesarion and his little brothersC
Alexander and Ptolemy whom for the firstD
time they lead out to the GymnasiumE
there to proclaim kingsF
in front of the grand assembly of the soldiersC
-
Alexander they named him kingG
of Armenia Media and the ParthiansC
Ptolemy they named him kingG
of Cilicia Syria and PhoeniciaH
Caesarion stood more to the frontI
dressed in rose colored silkJ
on his breast a bouquet of hyacinthsC
his belt a double row of sapphires and amethystsC
his shoes fastened with whiteK
ribbons embroidered with rose pearlsC
Him they named more than the younger onesC
him they named King of KingsC
-
The Alexandrians of course understoodL
that those were theatrical wordsC
-
But the day was warm and poeticM
the sky was a light azureN
the Alexandrian Gymnasium wasC
a triumphant achievement of artO
the opulence of the courtiers was extraordinaryP
Caesarion was full of grace and beautyP
son of Cleopatra blood of the LagidaeP
and the Alexandrians rushed to the ceremonyP
and got enthusiastic and cheeredP
in greek and egyptian and some in hebrewQ
enchanted by the beautiful spectacleR
although they full well knew what all these were worthS
what hollow words these kingships wereN
