A Great Procession Of Priests And Laymen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDAEFGHIAJKALBIG MJNAO P

A procession of priests and laymenA
each walk of life representedB
moves through streets squares and gatesC
of the famous city AntiochD
At the head of this imposing processionA
a handsome white clad boyE
carries the Cross his arms raisedF
our strength and hope the holy CrossG
The pagans lately so full of arroganceH
now reticent and cowardlyI
quickly slink away from the processionA
Let them keep their distance always keep their distance from usJ
as long as they do not renounce their errorsK
The holy Cross goes forward it brings joy and consolationA
to every quarter where Christians liveL
and these God fearing people elatedB
stand in their doorways and greet it reverentlyI
the strength the salvation of the universe the CrossG
-
-
This is an annual Christian festivalM
But today you see it is more conspicuousJ
The empire is delivered at lastN
The vile the appalling JulianA
reigns no longerO
-
For most pious Jovian let us give our prayersP
