He thinks her little feet should passB
Where dandelions star thickly grassB
Her hands should lift in sunlit airC
Sea wind should tangle up her hairC
Green leaves he says have never heardD
A sweeter ragtime mockingbirdD
Nor has the moon man ever seenE
Or man in the spotlight leering greenE
Such a beguiling smiling queenE
-
Her eyes he says are stars at duskF
Her mouth as sweet as red rose muskF
And when she dances his young heart swellsG
With flutes and viols and silver bellsG
His brain is dizzy his senses swimH
When she slants her ragtime eyes at himH
-
Moonlight shadows he bids her seeI
Move no more silently than sheI
It was this way he says she cameJ
Into his cold heart bearing flameJ
And now that his heart is all on fireK
Will she refuse his heart's desireK
And O has the Moon Man ever seenE
Or the spotlight devil leering greenE
A sweeter shadow upon a screenE
