Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDDEF GBH IDJ KLMN OPQQDDRDAIt is a shabby backdrop of bright stars | A |
one of the small interstices of time | B |
the worn out north star northward and Orion | C |
to westward spread in ruined light Eastward | D |
the other stars disposed or indisposed | D |
x ward or y ward the sick sun inflamed | D |
and all his drunken planets growing pale | E |
We watch them and our watching is this hour | F |
- | |
It is a stage of ether without space | G |
a space of limbo without time | B |
a faceless clock that never strikes | H |
- | |
and it is bloodstream at its priestlike task | I |
the indeterminate and determined heart | D |
that beats and beats and does not know it beats | J |
- | |
Here the dark synapse between nerve and nerve | K |
the void between two atoms in the brain | L |
darkness without term or form that sinks | M |
between two thoughts | N |
- | |
Here we have sounded angel | O |
O angel soul O memory of man | P |
And felt the nothing that sustains our wings | Q |
And here have seen the catalogue of things | Q |
All in the maelstrom of the limbo caught | D |
and whirled concentric to the funnel s end | D |
sans number and sans meaning and sans purpose | R |
the lack of meaning has a heart beat and | D |
the lack of number wears a cloak of stars | A |
