Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIHJKLKMNMN OIPIAQRSJMPMGHIHPTAT UEJEVWXWJKAKYMFMUGZG GHIHIt is morning Senlin says and in the morning | A |
When the light drips through the shutters like the dew | B |
I arise I face the sunrise | C |
And do the things my fathers learned to do | B |
Stars in the purple dusk above the rooftops | D |
Pale in a saffron mist and seem to die | E |
And I myself on a swiftly tilting planet | F |
Stand before a glass and tie my tie | E |
Vine leaves tap my window | G |
Dew drops sing to the garden stones | H |
The robin chips in the chinaberry tree | I |
Repeating three clear tones | H |
It is morning I stand by the mirror | J |
And tie my tie once more | K |
While waves far off in a pale rose twilight | L |
Crash on a white sand shore | K |
I stand by a mirror and comb my hair | M |
How small and white my face | N |
The green earth tilts through a sphere of air | M |
And bathes in a flame of space | N |
There are houses hanging above the stars | O |
And stars hung under a sea | I |
And a sun far off in a shell of silence | P |
Dapples my walls for me | I |
It is morning Senlin says and in the morning | A |
Should I not pause in the light to remember God | Q |
Upright and firm I stand on a star unstable | R |
He is immense and lonely as a cloud | S |
I will dedicate this moment before my mirror | J |
To him alone and for him I will comb my hair | M |
Accept these humble offerings cloud of silence | P |
I will think of you as I descend the stair | M |
Vine leaves tap my window | G |
The snail track shines on the stones | H |
Dew drops flash from the chinaberry tree | I |
Repeating two clear tones | H |
It is morning I awake from a bed of silence | P |
Shining I rise from the starless waters of sleep | T |
The walls are about me still as in the evening | A |
I am the same and the same name still I keep | T |
The earth revolves with me yet makes no motion | U |
The stars pale silently in a coral sky | E |
In a whistling void I stand before my mirror | J |
Unconcerned I tie my tie | E |
There are horses neighing on far off hills | V |
Tossing their long white manes | W |
And mountains flash in the rose white dusk | X |
Their shoulders black with rains | W |
It is morning I stand by the mirror | J |
And surprise my soul once more | K |
The blue air rushes above my ceiling | A |
There are suns beneath my floor | K |
It is morning Senlin says I ascend from darkness | Y |
And depart on the winds of space for I know not where | M |
My watch is wound a key is in my pocket | F |
And the sky is darkened as I descend the stair | M |
There are shadows across the windows clouds in heaven | U |
And a god among the stars and I will go | G |
Thinking of him as I might think of daybreak | Z |
And humming a tune I know | G |
Vine leaves tap at the window | G |
Dew drops sing to the garden stones | H |
The robin chirps in the chinaberry tree | I |
Repeating three clear tones | H |
