Amaryllis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHIJ KLMJN OPQRS

A flower needs to be this sizeA
to conceal the winter windowB
and this color the redC
of a Fiat with the top downD
to impress us dull as we've grownE
-
Months ago the gigantic onion of a bulbF
half above the soilG
stuck out its green tongueH
and slowly day by dayI
the flower itself entered our worldJ
-
closed like hands that captured a mothK
then open as eyes openL
and the amaryllis seeing usM
was somehow undiscouragedJ
It stands before us nowN
-
as we eat our soupO
you pour a little of your drinking waterP
into its saucer and a few crumbsQ
of fragrant earth fallR
onto the tabletopS
