L-apprenti Sorcier Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDAAAAAAEEFFGG GGGGHHGGGAAIIJJKKFFA ALLMMNO

Suddenly there came to meA
The music of a mighty seaA
That on a bare and iron shoreB
Thundered with a deeper roarB
Than all the tides that leap and runC
With us below the real sunC
Because the place was far awayD
Above beyond our homely dayD
Neighbouring close the frozen climeA
Where out of all the woods of timeA
Amid the frightful seraphimA
The fierce cold eyes of Godhead gleamA
Revolving hate and miseryA
And wars and famines yet to beA
And in my dreams I stood aloneE
Upon a shelf of weedy stoneE
And saw before my shrinking eyesF
The dark enormous breakers riseF
And hover and fall with deafening thunderG
Of thwarted foam that echoed underG
The ledge through many a cavern drearG
With hollow sounds of wintry fearG
And through the waters waste and greyG
Thick strown for many a league awayG
Out of the toiling sea aroseH
Many a face and form of thoseH
Thin elemental people dearG
Who live beyond our heavy sphereG
And all at once from far and nearG
They all held out their arms to meA
Crying in their melodyA
Leap in Leap in and take thy fillI
Of all the cosmic good and illI
Be as the Living ones that knowJ
Enormous joy enormous woeJ
Pain beyond thought and fiery blissK
For all thy study hunted thisK
On wings of magic to ariseF
And wash from off thy filmed eyesF
The cloud of cold mortalityA
To find the real life and beA
As are the children of the deepL
Be bold and dare the glorious leapL
Or to thy shame go slink againM
Back to the narrow ways of menM
So all these mocked me as I stoodN
Striving to wake because I feared the floodO
