Rhyme Scheme: ABABCB DEDECE FGFGAG HIHIJI KLK CL HKHKMK

Lead us Evolution lead usA
Up the future's endless stairB
Chop us change us prod us weed usA
For stagnation is despairB
Groping guessing yet progressingC
Lead us nobody knows whereB
-
Wrong or justice joy or sorrowD
In the present what are theyE
while there's always jam tomorrowD
While we tread the onward wayE
Never knowing where we're goingC
We can never go astrayE
-
To whatever variationF
Our posterity may turnG
Hairy squashy or crustaceanF
Bulbous eyed or square of sternG
Tusked or toothless mild or ruthlessA
Towards that unknown god we yearnG
-
Ask not if it's god or devilH
Brethren lest your words implyI
Static norms of good and evilH
As in Plato throned on highI
Such scholastic inelasticJ
Abstract yardsticks we denyI
-
Far too long have sages vainlyK
Glossed great Nature's simple textL
He who runs can read it plainlyK
'Goodness what comes next '-
By evolving Life is solvingC
All the questions we perplexedL
-
On then Value means survivalH
Value If our progenyK
Spreads and spawns and licks each rivalH
That will prove its deityK
Far from pleasant by our presentM
Standards though it may well beK
