As I Came Down From Lebanon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCADDA AEEAFFAFFA AGGAEEAHHA AFFAFFAFFA

As I came down from LebanonA
Came winding wandering slowly downB
Through mountain passes bleak and brownB
The cloudless day was well nigh doneA
The city like an opal setC
In emerald showed each minaretC
Afire with radiant beams of sunA
And glistened orange fig and limeD
Where song birds made melodious chimeD
As I came down from LebanonA
-
As I came down from LebanonA
Like lava in the dying glowE
Through olive orchards far belowE
I saw the murmuring river runA
And 'neath the wall upon the sandF
Swart sheiks from distant SamarcandF
With precious spices they had wonA
Lay long and languidly in waitF
Till they might pass the guarded gateF
As I came down from LebanonA
-
As I came down from LebanonA
I saw strange men from lands afarG
In mosque and square and gay bazarG
The Magi that the Moslem shunA
And grave Effendi from StamboulE
Who sherbet sipped in corners coolE
And from the balconies o'errunA
With roses gleamed the eyes of thoseH
Who dwell in still seragliosH
As I came down from LebanonA
-
As I came down from LebanonA
The flaming flower of daytime diedF
And Night arrayed as is a brideF
Of some great king in garments spunA
Of purple and the finest goldF
Outbloomed in glories manifoldF
Until the moon above the dunA
And darkening desert void of shadeF
Shone like a keen Damascus bladeF
As I came down from LebanonA
