Old Santeclaus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEF GHIJ KKLL MNOO PQRR SSOO TTOO

Old SANTECLAUS with much delightA
His reindeer drives this frosty nightA
O'er chimney tops and tracks of snowB
To bring his yearly gifts to youC
-
The steady friend of virtuous youthD
The friend of duty and of truthD
Each Christmas eve he joys to comeE
Where love and peace have made their homeF
-
Through many houses he has beenG
And various beds and stockings seenH
Some white as snow and neatly mendedI
Others that seemed for pigs intendedJ
-
Where e'er I found good girls or boysK
That hated quarrels strife and noiseK
I left an apple or a tartL
Or wooden gun or painted cartL
-
To some I gave a pretty dollM
To some a peg top or a ballN
No crackers cannons squibs or rocketsO
To blow their eyes up or their pocketsO
-
No drums to stun their Mother's earP
Nor swords to make their sisters fearQ
But pretty books to store their mindR
With knowledge of each various kindR
-
But where I found the children naughtyS
In manners rude in temper haughtyS
Thankless to parents liars swearersO
Boxers or cheats or base tale bearersO
-
I left a long black birchen rodT
Such as the dread command of GodT
Directs a Parent's hand to useO
When virtue's path his sons refuseO
