To The Sun Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJK LMNOPQPRPPPSPPMPPTUV UJPWXPYSThy light is an eminence unto thee | A |
And thou art upheld by the pillars of thy strength | B |
Thy power is a foundation for the worlds | C |
They are builded thereon as upon a lofty rock | D |
Whereto no enemy hath access | E |
Thou puttest forth thy rays and they hold the sky | F |
As in the hollow of an immense hand | G |
Thou erectest thy light as four walls | H |
And a roof with many beams and pillars | I |
Thy flame is a stronghold based as a mountain | J |
Its bastions are tall and firm like stone | K |
- | |
The worlds are bound with the ropes of thy will | L |
Like steeds are they stayed and constrained | M |
By the reins of invisible lightnings | N |
With bands that are stouter than iron manifold | O |
And stronger than the cords of the gulfs | P |
Thou withholdest them from the brink | Q |
Of outward and perilous deeps | P |
Lest they perish in the desolations of the night | R |
Or be stricken of strange suns | P |
Lest they be caught in the pitfalls of the abyss | P |
Or fall into the furnace of Arcturus | P |
Thy law is as a shore unto them | S |
And they are restrained thereby as the sea | P |
Thou art food and drink to the worlds | P |
Yea by the sustenance are they sustained | M |
That they falter not upon the road of space | P |
Whose goal is Hercules | P |
When thy pillars of force are withdrawn | T |
And the walls of thy light fall inward | U |
And thy head is covered with the Shadow | V |
The worlds shall wander as men bewildered | U |
In the wasteness void of life and barren | J |
Athirst and unfed shall they be | P |
When the springs of thy strength are dust | W |
And thy fields of light are black with dearth | X |
They shall perish from the ways | P |
That thou showest no longer | Y |
And emptiness shall close above them | S |
