From the final reach of the upper nightA
To the nether darks where the comets dieB
From the outmost bourn of the reigns of lightA
To the central gloom of the midmost skyB
In our mazeful gyres we flyB
And our flight is a choral chant of flameC
That ceaseless fares to the outer voidD
With the undersong of the peopled spheresE
The voices of comet and asteroidD
And the wail of the spheres destroyedD
Forever we sing to a god unseenF
In the dark shall our voices failG
The void is his robe inviolateH
The night is his awful veilG
How our fires grow dim and paleG
-
From the ordered gyres goes ever afarI
Our song of flame o'er the void unknownJ
Where circles nor world nor comet nor starI
Shall it die ere it reach His throneJ
-
On the shoreless deeps of the seas of gloomK
Sailing we venture afar and wideL
Where ever await the tempests of doomK
Where the silent maelstroms lurk and hideL
And the darkling reefs abideL
And the change and ruin of stars is a songM
That rises and ebbs in a tide of fireN
A music whose notes are of dreadful flameC
Whose harmonics ever leap high'rI
Where the suns and the worlds expireO
Is such music not fit for a godP
Yet ever the deep is a darkQ
And ever the night is a voidD
Nor brightens a word nor a markQ
To show if our God may harkQ
-
From the gyres of change goes ever afarI
Our flaming chant o'er the deep unknownJ
The song of the death of planet and starI
Shall it die ere it reach His throneJ
-
In our shadows of light the planets sweepR
And endure for the span of our primeS
Globed atoms that hazard the termless deepR
With races that bow to the law of TimeS
And yet cherish a dream sublimeS
And they cry to the god behind the veilG
Yet how should their voices pass the nightA
The silence that waits in the rayless voidD
If he hear not our music of lightA
And the thundrous song of our mightA
And they strive in the gloom for truthT
Yet how should they pierce the veilG
When we with our splendors of flameC
In the darkness faint and failG
Our fires how feeble and paleG
-
From the ordered gyres goes ever afarI
Our song of flame o'er the void unknownJ
Where circles nor world nor comet nor starI
Shall it die ere it reach His throneJ
