The Melancholy Pool Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEBDEB

Marked by the priesthood of the Night's misruleA
The shadow cowled imprecatory treesB
Cypress that guarded woodland secreciesB
And graves that waited for the delaying ghoulA
Nathless I neared the melancholy poolA
Chief care of all but closlier sentinelledC
By those whose roots were deepest in dead eldC
Where the thwart woven boughs were wet and coolA
As with a mist of poison I drew nearD
To mark the tired stars peer dimly downE
Through riven branches from the height of spaceB
And shudder in those waters with quick fearD
Where in black deeps the pale moon seemed to drownE
A haggard girl with dead despairing faceB
