Bow down I am the emperor of dreamsA
I crown me with the million colored sunB
Of secret worlds incredible and takeC
Their trailing skies for vestment when I soarD
Throned on the mounting zenith and illumeE
The spaceward flown horizons infiniteF
Like rampant monsters roaring for their glutF
The fiery crested oceans rise and riseG
By jealous moons maleficently urgedH
To follow me for ever mountains hornedI
With peaks of sharpest adamant and mawedI
With sulphur lit volcanoes lava languedI
Usurp the skies with thunder but in vainJ
And continents of serpent shapen treesK
With slimy trunks that lengthen league by leagueL
Pursue my light through ages spurned to fireM
By that supreme ascendance sorcerersN
And evil kings predominanthly armedI
With scrolls of fulvous dragon skin whereonJ
Are worm like runes of ever twisting flameE
Would stay me and the sirens of the starsO
With foam like songs from silver fragrance wroughtI
Would lure me to their crystal reefs and moonsP
Where viper eyed senescent devils dwellQ
With antic gnomes abominably wiseG
Heave up their icy horns across my wayR
But naught deters me from the goal ordainedI
By suns and eons and immortal warsS
And sung by moons and motes the goal whose nameE
Is all the secret of forgotten glyphsS
By sinful gods in torrid rubies writI
For ending of a brazen book the goalT
Whereat my soaring ecstasy may standI
In amplest heavens multiplied to holdI
My hordes of thunder vested avatarsS
And Prometh an armies of my thoughtI
That brandish clasp d levins There I callU
My memories intolerably cladI
In light the peaks of paradise may wearV
And lead the Armageddon of my dreamsS
Whose instant shout of triumph is becomeE
Immensity's own music for their feetI
Are founded on innumerable worldsS
Remote in alien epochs and their armsS
Upraised are columns potent to exaltI
With ease ineffable the countless thronesS
Of all the gods that are or gods to beW
And bear the seats of Asmodai and SetI
Above the seventh paradiseS
-
SupremeE
In culminant omniscience manifoldI
And served by senses multitudinousS
Far posted on the shifting walls of timeE
With eyes that roam the star unwinnowed fieldsS
Of utter night and chaos I convokeL
The Babel of their visions and attendI
At once their myriad witness I beholdI
In Ombos where the fallen Titans dwellQ
With mountain builded walls and gulfs for moatI
The secret cleft that cunning dwarves have dugL
Beneath an alp like buttress and I listI
Too late the clam of adamantine gongsS
Dinned by their drowsy guardians whose feetI
Have fell the wasp like sting of little knivesS
Embrued With slobber of the basiliskL
Or the pail Juice of wounded upas InJ
Some red Antarean garden world I seeS
The sacred flower with lips of purple fleshX
And silver Lashed vermilion lidded eyesS
Of torpid azure whom his furtive priestsS
At moonless eve in terror seek to slayR
With bubbling grails of sacrificial bloodI
That hide a hueless poison And I readI
Upon the tongue of a forgotten sphinxS
The annulling word a spiteful demon wroteI
In gall of slain chimeras and I knowJ
What pentacles the lunar wizards useS
That once allured the gulf returning rocL
With ten great wings of furl d storm to pauseS
Midmost an alabaster mount and thereV
With boulder weighted webs of dragons' gutI
Uplift by cranes a captive giant builtI
They wound the monstrous moonquake throbbing birdI
And plucked from off his saber taloned feetI
Uranian sapphires fast in frozen bloodI
And amethysts from Mars I lean to readI
With slant lipped mages in an evil starY
The monstrous archives of a war that ranJ
Through wasted eons and the prophecyS
Of wars renewed which shall commemorateI
Some enmity of wivern headed kingsS
Even to the brink of time I know the bloomsS
Of bluish fungus freaked with mercuryS
That bloat within the creators of the moonJ
And in one still selenic and fetor and I knowJ
What clammy blossoms blanched and cavern grownJ
Are proffered to their gods in UranusS
By mole eyed peoples and the livid seedI
Of some black fruit a king in Saturn ateI
Which cast upon his tinkling palace floorD
Took root between the burnished flags and nowJ
Hath mounted and become a hellish treeS
Whose lithe and hairy branches lined with mouthsS
Net like a hundred ropes his lurching throneJ
And strain at starting pillars I beholdI
The slowly thronging corals that usurpZ
Some harbour of a million masted seaS
And sun them on the league long wharves of goldI
Bulks of enormous crimson kraken limbedI
And kraken headed lifting up as crownsS
The octiremes of perished emperorsS
And galleys fraught with royal gems that sailedI
From a sea fled havenJ
-
Swifter and stranger growJ
The visions now a mighty city loomsS
Hewn from a hill of purest cinnabarY
To domes and turrets like a sunrise throngedI
With tier on tier of captive moons half drownedI
In shifting erubescence But whose handsS
Were sculptors of its doors and columns wroughtI
To semblance of prodigious blooms of oldI
No eremite hath lingered there to sayR
And no man comes to learn for long agoJ
A prophet came warning its timid kingL
Against the plague of lichens that had creptI
Across subverted empires and the sandI
Of wastes that cyclopean mountains wardI
Which slow and ineluctable would comeE
To take his fiery bastions and his fanesR
And quench his domes with greenish tetter NowJ
I see a host of naked gents armedI
With horns of behemoth and unicornJ
Who wander blinded by the clinging spellsR
O hostile wizardry and stagger onJ
To forests where the very leaves have eyesR
And ebonies like wrathful dragons roarD
To teaks a chuckle in the loathly gloomE
Where coiled lianas lean with serried fangsR
From writhing palms with swollen boles that moanJ
Where leeches of a scarlet moss have suckedI
The eyes of some dead monster and have crawledI
To bask upon his azure spotted spineJ
Where hydra throated blossoms hiss and singL
Or yawn with mouths that drip a sluggish dewI
Whose touch is death and slow corrosion ThenJ
I watch a war of pygmies met by nightI
With pitter of their drums of parrot's hideI
On plains with no horizon where a godI
Might lose his way for centuries and thereV
In wreath d light and fulgors all convolvedI
A rout of green enormous moons ascendI
With rays that like a shivering venom runJ
On inch long swords of lizard fangL
-
SurveyedI
From this my throne as from a central sunJ
The pageantries of worlds and cycles passR
Forgotten splendors dream by dream unfoldI
Like tapestry and vanish violet sunsR
Or suns of changeful iridescence bringL
Their rays about me like the colored lightsR
Imploring priests might lift to glorifyA2
The face of some averted god the songsR
Of mystic poets in a purple worldI
Ascend to me in music that is madeI
From unconceiv d perfumes and the pulseR
Of love ineffable the lute playersR
Whose lutes are strung with gold of the utmost moonJ
Call forth delicious languors never knownJ
Save to their golden kings the sorcerersR
Of hooded stars inscrutable to GodI
Surrender me their demon wrested scrollsR
lnscribed with lore of monstrous alchemiesR
And awful transformationsR
-
If I willB2
I am at once the vision and the seerC2
And mingle with my ever streaming pompsR
And still abide their suzerain I amE
The neophyte who serves a nameless godI
Within whose fane the fanes of HecatompylosR
Were arks the Titan worshippers might bearV
Or flags to pave the threshold or I amE
The god himself who calls the fleeing cloudsR
Into the nave where suns might congregateI
And veils the darkling mountain of his faceR
With fold on solemn fold for whom the priestsR
Amass their monthly hecatomb of gemsR
Opals that are a camel cumbering loadI
And monstrous alabraundines won from warD
With realms of hostile serpents which ariseR
Combustible in vapors many huedI
And myrrh excelling perfumes It is IA2
The king who holds with scepter dropping handI
The helm of some great barge of orichalchumE
Sailing upon an amethystine seaR
To isles of timeless summer for the snowsR
Of Hyperborean winter and their windsR
Sleep in his jewel builded capitalD2
Nor any charm of flame wrought wizardryR
Nor conjured suns may rout them so he feesR
With captive kings to urge his serried oarsR
Hopeful of dales where amaranthine dawnJ
Hath never left the faintly sighing loteI
And lisping moly Firm of heart I fareV
Impanoplied with azure diamondI
As hero of a quest Achernar lightsR
To deserts filled with ever wandering flamesR
That feed upon the sullen marl and soarD
To wrap the slopes of mountains and to leapE2
With tongues intolerably lengtheningL
That lick the blench d heavens But there livesR
Secure as in a garden walled from windI
A lonely flower by a placid wellQ
Midmost the flaring tumult of the flamesR
That roar as roars a storm possessed seaR
Impacable for ever and withinJ
That simple grail the blossom lifts there liesR
One drop of an incomparable dewI
Which heals the parch d weariness of kingsR
And cures the wound of wisdom I am pageF2
To an emperor who reigns ten thousand yearsR
And through his labyrinthine palace roomsR
Through courts and colonnades and balconiesR
Wherein immensity itself is mazedI
I seek the golden gorget he hath lostI
On which in sapphires fine as orris seedI
Are writ the names of his conniving starsR
And friendly planets Roaming thus I hearC2
Like demon tears incessant through dark agesR
The drip of sullen clepsydrae and onceR
In every lustrum hear the brazen clocksR
Innumerably clang with such a soundI
As brazen hammers make by devils dinnedI
On tombs of all the dead and nevermoreD
I find the gorget but at length I findI
A seal d room whose nameless prisonerM
Moans with a nameless torture and would turnJ
To hell's red rack as to a lilied couchG2
From that whereon they stretched him and I findI
Prostrate upon a lotus painted floorD
The loveliest of all beloved slavesR
My emperor hath and from her pulseless sideI
A serpent rises whiter than the rootI
Of some venefic bloom in darkness grownJ
And gazes up with green lit eyes that seemE
Like drops of cold congealing poisonJ
-
HarkL
What word was whispered in a tongue unknownJ
In crypts of some impenetrable worldI
Whose is the dark dethroning secrecyR
I cannot share though I am king of sunsR
And king therewith of strong eternityR
Whose gnomons with their swords of shadow guardI
My gates and slay the intruder Silence loadsR
The wind of ether and the worlds are stillB2
To hear the word that flees mine audienceR
In simultaneous ruin al my dreamsR
Fall like a rack of fuming vapors raisedI
To semblance by a necromant and leaveH2
Spirit and sense unthinkably aloneJ
Above a universe of shrouded starsR
And suns that wander cowled with sullen gloomE
Like witches to a Sabbath Fear is bornJ
In crypts below the nadir and hath crawledI
Reaching the floor of space and waits for wingsR
To lift it upward like a hellish wormE
Fain for the flesh of cherubim Red orbsR
And eyes that gleam remotely as the starsR
But are not eyes of suns or galaxiesR
Gather and throng to the base of darkness flameE
Behind some black abysmal curtain burnsR
Implacable and fanned to whitest wrathI2
By rais d wings that flail the whiffled gloomE
And make a brief and broken wind that moansR
As one who rides a throbbing rack There isR
A Thing that crouches worlds and years remoteI
Whose horns a demon sharpens rasping forthJ2
A note to shatter the donjon keeps of timeE
Or crack the sphere of crystal All is darkL
For ages and my toiling heart suspendsR
Its clamor as within the clutch of deathK2
Tightening with tense hermetic rigors ThenJ
In one enormous million flashing flameE
The stars unveil the suns remove their cowlsR
And beam to their responding planets timeE
Is mine once more and armies of its dreamsR
Rally to that insuperable throneJ
Firmed on the zenithL2
-
Once again I seekL
The meads of shining moly I had foundI
In some anterior vision by a streamE
No cloud hath ever tarnished where the sunJ
A gold Narcissus loiters evermoreD
Above his golden image But I findI
A corpse the ebbing water will not keepE2
With eyes like sapphires that have lain in hellQ
And felt the hissing coals and all the flowersR
About me turn to hooded serpents swayedI
By flutes of devils in lascivious danceR
Meet for the nod of Satan when he reignsR
Above the raging Sabbath and is wooedI
By sarabands of witches But I turnJ
To mountains guarding with their horns of snowJ
The source of that befoul d rill and seekL
A pinnacle where none but eagles climbE
And they with failing pennons But in vainJ
I flee for on that pylon of the skyA2
Some curse hath turned the unprinted snow to flameE
Red fires that curl and cluster to my treadI
Trying the summit's narrow cirque And nowJ
I see a silver python far beneathM2
Vast as a river that a fiend hath witchedI
And forced to flow reverted in its courseR
To mountains whence it issued RapidlyR
It winds from slope to crumbling slope and fillsR
Ravines and chasmal gorges till the cragsR
Totter with coil on coil incumbent SoonJ
It hath entwined the pinnacle I keepE2
And gapes with a fanged unfathomable mawE
Wherein Great Typhon and EnceladusR
Were orts of daily glut But I am goneJ
For at my call a hippogriff hath comeE
And firm between his thunder beating wingsR
I mount the sheer cerulean walls of noonJ
And see the earth a spurn d pebble fallU
Lost in the fields of nether stars and seekL
A planet where the outwearied wings of timeE
Might pause and furl for respite or the plumesR
Of death be stayed and loiter in reprieveH2
Above some deathless lily for thereinJ
Beauty hath found an avatar of flowersR
Blossoms that clothe it as a colored flameE
From peak to peak from pole to sullen poleT
And turn the skies to perfume There I findI
A lonely castle calm and unbesetI
Save by the purple spears of amaranthN2
And leafing iris tender sworded WallsR
Of flush d marble wonderful with roseR
And domes like golden bubbles and minaretsR
That take the clouds as coronal these are mineJ
For voiceless looms the peaceful barbicanJ
And the heavy teethed portcullis hangs aloftI
To grin a welcome So I leave awhileO2
My hippogriff to crop the magic meadsR
And pass into a court the lilies holdI
And tread them to a fragrance that pursuesR
To win the portico whose columns carvedI
Of lazuli and amber mock the palmsR
Of bright Aidennic forests capitalledI
With fronds of stone fretted to airy laceR
Enfolding drupes that seem as tawny clustersR
Of breasts of unknown houris and convolvedI
With vines of shut and shadowy leav d flowersR
Like the dropt lids of women that endureP2
Some loin dissolving ecstasy Through doorsR
Enlaid with lilies twined luxuriouslyO2
I enter dazed and blinded with the sunJ
And hear in gloom that changing colors cloudI
A chuckle sharp as crepitating iceR
Upheaved and cloven by shoulders of the damnedI
Who strive in Antenora When my eyesR
Undazzle and the cloud of color fadesR
I find me in a monster guarded roomE
Where marble apes with wings of griffins crowdI
On walls an evil sculptor wrought and beastsR
Wherein the sloth and vampire bat uniteI
Pendulous by their toes of tarnished bronzeR
Usurp the shadowy interval of lampsR
That hang from ebon arches Like a rippleO2
Borne by the wind from pool to sluggish poolO2
In fields where wide Cocytus flows his boundI
A crackling smile around that circle runsR
And all the stone wrought gibbons stare at meR
With eyes that turn to glowing coals A fearQ2
That found no name in Babel flings me onJ
Breathless and faint with horror to a hallO2
Within whose weary self reverting roundI
The languid curtains heavier than pallsR
Unnumerably depict a weary kingL
Who fain would cool his jewel crusted handsR
In lakes of emerald evening or the fieldI
Of dreamless poppies pure with rain I fleeR
Onward and all the shadowy curtains shakeL
With tremors of a silken sighing mirthR2
And whispers of the innumerable kingL
Breathing a tale of ancient pestilenceR
Whose very words are vile contagion ThenJ
I reach a room where caryatidsR
Carved in the form of voluptuous Titan womenJ
Surround a throne flowering ebonyR
Where creeps a vine of crystal On the throneJ
There lolls a wan enormous Worm whose bulkL
Tumid with all the rottenness of kingsR
Overflows its arms with fold on creas d foldI
Obscenely bloating Open mouthed he leansR
And from his fulvous throat a score of tonguesR
Depending like to wreaths of torpid vipersR
Drivel with phosphorescent slime that runsR
Down all his length of soft and monstrous foldsR
And creeping among the flowers of ebonyR
Lends them the life of tiny serpents NowJ
Ere the Horror ope those red and lashless slitsR
Of eyes that draw the gnat and midge I turnJ
And follow down a dusty hall whose gloomE
Lined by the statues with their mighty limbsR
Ends in golden roof d balconyR
Sphering the flowered horizonJ
-
Ere my heartI
Hath hushed the panic tumult of its pulsesR
I listen from beyond the horizon's rimE
A mutter faint as when the far simoomE
Mounting from unknown deserts opens forthJ2
Wide as the waste those wings of torrid nightI
That shake the doom of cities from their foldsR
And musters in its van a thousand windsR
That with disrooted palms for besoms riseR
And sweep the sands to fury As the stormE
Approaching mounts and loudens to the earsR
Of them that toil in fields of sesameE
So grows the mutter and a shadow creepsR
Above the gold horizon like a dawnJ
Of darkness climbing zenith ward They comeE
The Sabaoth of retribution drawnJ
From all dread spheres that knew my trespassingL
And led by vengeful fiends and dire alastorsR
That owned my sway aforetime CockatriceR
Chimera martichoras behemothL2
Geryon and sphinx and hydra on my kenJ
Arise as might some Afrit builded cityE
Consummate in the lifting of a lashS2
With thunderous domes and sounding obelisksR
And towers of night and fire alternate WingsR
Of white hot stone along the hissing windI
Bear up the huge and furnace hearted beastsR
Of hells beyond Rutilicus and thingsR
Whose lightless length would mete the gyre of moonsR
Born from the caverns of a dying sunJ
Uncoil to the very zenith half disclosedI
From gulfs below the horizon octopiA2
Like blazing moons with countless arms of fireM
Climb from the seas of ever surging flameE
That roll and roar through planets unconsumedI
Beating on coasts of unknown metals beastsR
That range the mighty worlds of Alioth riseR
Afforesting the heavens with mulitudinous hornsR
Amid whose maze the winds are lost and borneJ
On cliff like brows of plunging scolopendrasR
The shell wrought towers of ocean witches loomE
And griffin mounted gods and demons thronedI
On sable dragons and the cockodrillsR
That bear the spleenful pygmies on their backsR
And blue faced wizards from the worlds of SaiphH2
On whom Titanic scorpions fawn and armiesR
That move with fronts reverted from the foeH2
And strike athwart their shoulders at the shapesR
The shields reflect in crystal and eidolaR
Fashioned within unfathomable cavesR
By hands of eyeless peoples and the blindI
Worm shapen monsters of a sunless worldI
With krakens from the ultimate abyssR
And Demogorgons of the outer darkL
Arising shout with dire multisonous clamorsR
And threatening me with dooms ineffableR
In words whereat the heavens leap to flameE
Advance upon the enchanted palace FallingL
For league on league before their shadows lightI
And eat like fire the arnaranthine meadsR
Leaving an ashen desert In the palaceR
I hear the apes of marble shriek and howlR
And all the women shapen columns moanJ
Babbling with terror In my tenfold fearQ2
A monstrous dread unnamed in any hallR
I rise and flee with the fleeing wind for wingsR
And in a trice the wizard palace reefsR
And spring to a single tower of flameE
Goes out and leaves nor shard nor ember FlownJ
Beyond the world upon that fleeing windI
I reach the gulf's irrespirable vergeT2
Where fads the strongest storm for breath and fallR
Supportless through the nadir plung d gloomE
Beyond the scope and vision of the sunJ
To other skies and systemsR
-
In a worldI
Deep wooded with the multi colored fungiA2
That soar to semblance of fantastic palmsR
I fall as falls the meteor stone and breakL
A score of trunks to atom powder UnharmedI
I rise and through the illimitable woodsR
Among the trees of flimsy opal roamE
And see their tops that clamber hour by hourM
To touch the suns of iris Things unseenJ
Whose charnel breath informs the tideless airV
With spreading pools of fetor follow meE
Elusive past the ever changing palmsR
And pittering moths with wide and ashen wingsR
Flit on before and insects ember huedI
Descending hurtle through the gorgeous gloomE
And quench themselves in crumbling thickets HeardI
Far off the gong like roar of beasts unknownJ
Resounds at measured intervals of timeE
Shaking the riper trees to dust that fallsR
In clouds of acrid perfume stifling meE
Beneath an irised pallR
-
Now the palmettoesR
Grow far apart and lessen momentlyR
To shrubs a dwarf might topple Over themE
I see an empty desert all ablazeR
With ametrysts and rubies and the dustI
Of garnets or carnelians On I roamE
Treading the gorgeous grit that dazzles meE
With leaping waves of endless rutilanceR
Whereby the air is turned to a crimson gloomE
Through which I wander blind as any KoboldI
Till underfoot the grinding sands give placeR
To stone or metal with a massive ringL
More welcome to mine ears than golden bellsR
Or tinkle of silver fountains When the gloomE
Of crimson lifts I stand upon the edgeU2
Of a broad black plain of adamant that reachesR
Level as windless water to the vergeT2
Of all the world and through the sable plainJ
A hundred streams of shattered marble runJ
And streams of broken steel and streams of bronzeR
Like to the ruin of all the wars of timeE
To plunge with clangor of timeless cataractsR
Adown the gulfs eternalR
-
So I followR
Between a river of steel and a river of bronzeR
With ripples loud and tuneless as the clashS2
Of a million lutes and come to the precipiceR
From which they fall and make the mighty soundI
Of a million swords that meet a million shieldsR
Or din of spears and armour in the warsR
Of half the worlds and eons Far beneathM2
They fall through gulfs and cycles of the voidI
And vanish like a stream of broken starsR
into the nether darkness nor the godsR
Of any sun nor demons of the gulfH2
Will dare to know what everlasting seaR
Is fed thereby and mounts forevermoreV
In one unebbing tideI
-
What nimbus cloudI
Or night of sudden and supreme eclipseR
Is on the suns opal At my sideI
The rivers run with a wan and ghostly gleamE
Through darkness falling as the night that fallsR
From spheres extinguished Turning I beholdI
Betwixt the sable desert and the sunsR
The pois d wings of all the dragon routI
Far flown in black occlusion thousand foldI
Through stars and deeps and devastated worldsR
Upon my trail of terror Griffins rocsR
And sluggish dark chimeras heavy wingedI
After the ravin of dispeopled landsR
And harpies and the vulture birds of hellR
Hot from abominable feasts and fainJ
To cool their beaks and talons in my bloodI
All all have gathered and the wingless rearV
With rank on rank of foul colossal WormsR
Makes horrent now the horizon From the wanJ
I hear the shriek of wyvers loud and shrillR
As tempests in a broken fane and roarV
Of sphinxes like relentless toll of bellsR
From towers infernal Cloud on hellish cloudI
They arch the zenith and a dreadful windI
Falls from them like the wind before the stormE
And in the wind my riven garment streamsR
And flutters in the face of all the voidI
Even as flows a flaffing spirit lostI
On the pit s undying tempest Louder growsR
The thunder of the streams of stone and bronzeR
Redoubled with the roar of torrent wingsR
Inseparable mingled Scarce I keepE2
My footing in the gulfward winds of fearV
And mighty thunders beating to the voidI
In sea like waves incessant and would fleeR
With them and prove the nadir founded nightI
Where fall the streams of ruin But when I reachV2
The verge and seek through sun defeating gloomE
To measure with my gaze the dread descentI
I see a tiny star within the depthsR
A light that stays me while the wings of doomE
Convene their thickening thousands for the starV
increases taking to its hueless orbW2
With all the speed of horror chang d dreamsR
The light as of a million million moonsR
And floating up through gulfs and glooms eclipsedI
It grows and grows a huge white eyeless FaceR
That fills the void and fills the universeR
And bloats against the limits of the worldI
With lips of flame that openJ
