The Harlot Of The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA BCCB DCB ECB

O Life thou harlot who beguilest allA
Beautiful in thy house the golden worldB
Abidest thou where Powers pinion furledB
And flying Splendors follow to thy callA
-
Innumerous like the stars or like the dustB
Nations and monarchs were thy thralls of yoreC
Unto the grave's old womb forevermoreC
Hast thou betrayed the passion and the lustB
-
Fair as the moon of summer is thy faceD
And mystical with cloudiness of hairC
Only an eye subornless by delightB
-
Shall find within thy phosphorescent gazeE
Those caverns of corruption and despairC
Where the Worm toileth in the charnel nightB
