The City Of The Titans Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EEF GGF

I saw a city in a lonely landA
Foursquare it fronted upon gulfs of fireB
Behind the night of Erebus hung entireB
And deserts gloomed or glimmered on each handA
-
Sunken it seemed past any star or sunC
Yet strong with bastion proud with tower and domeD
An archetypal Titan builded RomeD
Dread thunder named the seat of gods foredoneC
-
Outreaching time beyond destruction basedE
Immensely piled upon the prostrate wasteE
And cinctured with insuperable deepsF
-
The city dreamed in darkness evermoreG
Pregnant with crypts of terrible strange loreG
And doom fraught arsenals in lampless keepsF
