A FragmentA
-
I-
-
The incognizable kings of Night within their unrevealed abyssB
Have built them a metropolis against the kingdoms of the lightC
-
Its mountain passing ramparts climb exalted from the nadir flatsD
In black Babelian ziggurats that tier the dusk of nether timeE
-
Prodigious dire and indistinct with horns that lift the heavens' doomF
Its turrets crowd the skyless gloom huge as the night of hells extinctG
-
The hostile gulfs for armor wear its walls as of a thousand RomesD
The swollen menace of its domes enhelms the swart inimic airH
-
The Powers to darkness ministrant have fortressed them supremely wellI
Building their dreadful citadel with massed eternal adamantA
-
Quarried from the core entire of suns that night and ice entombF
Their secret furnaces relume the stone that once was stellar fireJ
-
The monstrous lamps of Death and Mars like demon moons emblaze their hallsD
The watch fires on the infernal walls flame like a crown of fallen starsD
-
II-
-
From out the sunken courts resound colossal engineries of doomF
Some slow malign tremendous loom dismally rumbles undergroundK
-
Loud shuttles clack implacably unknown machines with clangorous ireL
Beat in their hearts of throbbing fire the instants of eternityM
-
The crooked arms of titan cranes with grasp Briarean momentlyI
Lift to the dim Tartarean sky a nameless freight in stretch d chainsD
-
And Acheronian waters roar constrained relentless subterreneN
Where at their evil toil unseen the hellish wheels moan evermoreO
