The smoke doth rise and wind in columns grey | B |
Red flare the flames of fagots leaping high | A |
Then smoulder down as dies the darkling day | B |

Now wendeth a procession mournful slow | C |
Sharp lined athwart the sun that sets in red | D |
Upon the pyre they lay the Rajah low | C |
Impassive mute this is his final bed | D |

Swift leap the crimson flames above the pyre | E |
As shades of India's night are falling fast | F |
On high they leap then sinks the fagot fire | E |
And dieth slow All things must end at last | F |
