Lost from those archangelic thrones that star	A
Fadeless and fixed heaven's light of azure bliss	B
Forbanned of all His splendor and depressed	C
Beyond the birth of the first sun and lower	D
Than the last star's decline I still endure	E
Abased majestic fallen beautiful	F
And unregretful in the doubted dark	G
Throneless that greatens chaos ward albeit	H
From chanting stars that throng the nave of night	I
Lost echoes wander here and of His praise	J
With ringing moons for cymbals dinned afar	A
And shouted from the flaming mouths of suns	K

The shadows of impalpable blank deeps	K
Deep upon deep accumulate close down	L
Around my head concentered while above	M
In the lit loftier blue star after star	A
Spins endless orbits betwixt me and heaven	N
And at my feet mysterious Chaos breaks	K
Abrupt immeasurable Round His throne	O
Throbs now the rhythmic resonance of suns	K
Incessant perfect music infinite	P
I throneless hear the discords of the dark	G
And roar of ruin uncreate than which	Q
Some vast cacophony of dragons heard	R
In wasted worlds were purer melody	S

The universe His tyranny constrains	K
Turns on in old and consummated gulfs	K
The stars that wield His judgement wait at hand	T
And in new deeps Apocalyptic suns	K
Prepare His corning lo His mighty whim	U
To rear and mar goes forth enormously	S
In nights and constellations Darkness hears	K
Enrag d suns that bellow down the deep	V
God's ravenous and insatiable will	W
And He is strong with change and rideth forth	X
In whirlwind clothed with thunders and with doom	Y
To the red stars God's throne is reared of change	Z
Its myriad and successive hands support	A2
Like music His omnipotence that fails	K
If mercy or if justice interrupt	B2
The sequence of that tyranny begun	N
Upon injustice and doomed evermore	C2
To stand thereby	D2

I who with will not less	K
Than His but lesser strength opposed to Him	U
This unsubmissive brow and lifted mind	E2
He holds remote in nullity and night	I
Doubtful between old Chaos and the deeps	K
Betrayed by Time to vassalage Methinks	K
All tyrants fear whom they may not destroy	F2
And I that am of essence one with His	K
Though less in measure He may not destroy	F2
And but withstands in gulfs of dark suspense	K
A secret dread for ever for God knows	K
This quiet will irrevocably set	G2
Against His own and this my prime revolt	H2
Yet stubborn and confirmed eternally	S
And with the hatred born of fear and fed	I2
Ever thereby God hates me and His gaze	K
Sees the bright menace of mine eyes afar	A
Through midnight and the innumerable blaze	K
Of servile suns lo strong in tyranny	S
The despot trembles that I stand opposed	J2
For fain am I to hush the anguished cries	K
Of Substance broken on the racks of change	Z
Of Matter tortured into life and God	K2
Knowing this dreads evermore some huge mishap	L2
That in the vigils of Omnipotence	K
Once careless I shall enter heaven or He	S
Himself with weight of some unwonted act	M2
Thoughtless perturb His balanced tyranny	S
To mine advance of watchful aspiration	N

With rumored thunder and enormous groan	O
Burden of sound that heavens overborne	O
Let slip from deep to deep even to this	K
Where climb the huge cacophonies of Chaos	K
God's universe moves on Confirmed in pride	N2
In patient majesty serene and strong	O2
I wait the dreamt inevitable hour	D
Fulfilled of orbits ultimate when God	K2
Whether through His mischance or mine own deed	P2
Or rise of other and extremer Strength	Q2
Shall vanish and the lightened universe	K
No more remember Him than Silence does	K
An ancient thunder I know not if these	K
Mine all indomitable eyes shall see	S
A maimed and dwindled Godhead cast among	R2
The stars of His creating and beneath	S2
The unnumbered rush of swift and shining feet	T2
Trodden into night or mark the fiery breath	U2
Of His infuriate suns blaze forth upon	O
And scorch that coarsened Essence or His flame	V2
A mightier comet roar and redden down	O
Portentous unto Chaos I but wait	W2
In strong majestic patience equable	F
That hour of consummation and of doom	Y
Of justice and rebellion justified	N2
