Remembered Light Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGBHIJKIIIIHIIL ICMIMHNHM IIHHHBThe years are a falling of snow | A |
Slow but without cessation | B |
On hills and mountains and towers and worlds that were | C |
But snow and the crawling night wherein it fell | D |
May be washed away in one swifter hour of flame | E |
Thus it was that some slant of sunset | F |
In the chasms of pil d cloud | G |
Transient mountains that made a new horizon | B |
Uplifting the west to fantastic pinnacles | H |
Smote warm in a buried realm of the spirit | I |
Till the snows of forgetfulness were gone | J |
Clear in the vistas of memory | K |
The peaks of a world long unremembered | I |
Soared further than clouds but fell not | I |
Based on hills that shook not nor melted | I |
With that burden enormous hardly to be believed | I |
Rent with stupendous chasms | H |
Full of an umber twilight | I |
I beheld that larger world | I |
Bright was the twilight clear like ethereal wine | L |
Above but low in the clefts it thickened | I |
Dull as with duskier tincture | C |
Like whimsical wings outspread but unstirring | M |
Flowers that seemed spirits of the twilight | I |
That must pass with its passing | M |
Too fragile for day or for darkness | H |
Fed the dusk with more delicate hues than its own | N |
Stars that were nearer more radiant than ours | H |
Quivered and pulsed in the clear thin gold of the sky | M |
- | |
These things I beheld | I |
Till the gold was shaken with tight | I |
Of fantastical wings like broken shadows | H |
Forerunning the darkness | H |
Till the twilight shivered with outcry of eldritch voices | H |
Like pain's last cry ere oblivion | B |
