Only To One Returned Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CCDEED

Often before the mortal mouth has knownA
What fruit the vagrant phoenixes devourB
In Melusina's or Armida's bowerB
Not fully savored are the apples grownA
In charmless orchards closed about with stoneA
Only to one returned in some late hourB
From shores of lote where guardian scyllas glowerB
The sweetness of the fruits of earth is shownA
-
Thus turning from translunar seasons bleakC
Or borderlands of Endor ill to seekC
Where necromancy's wandering wisps grow dimD
And Lilith and her night bound daughters dwellE
Love finds again some fleshly citadelE
Safe walled with many a pleasance sweet to himD
