Rhyme Scheme: ABACCBDEDEFGGCCFHHHH HHFFFFIFIFJFFJFF HHFHHFFHHFHHFHFFFAHH HHHIIFHCHFCKKCCFFCC| O many gulfed unalterable one | A |
| Whose deep sustains | B |
| Far drifting world and sun | A |
| Thou wast ere ever star put out on thee | C |
| And thou shalt be | C |
| When never world remains | B |
| When all the suns' triumphant strength and pride | D |
| Is sunk in voidness absolute | E |
| And their majestic music wide | D |
| In vaster silence rendered mute | E |
| And though God's will were night to dusk the blue | F |
| And law to cancel and disperse | G |
| The tangled tissues of the universe | G |
| His might were impotent to conquer thee | C |
| O indivisible infinity | C |
| Thy darks subdue | F |
| All light that treads thee down a space | H |
| Exulting over thine archetypal deeps | H |
| The cycles die and lo thy darkness reaps | H |
| The flame of mightiest stars | H |
| In aeon implicating wars | H |
| Thou tearest planets from their place | H |
| Worlds granite spined | F |
| To thine erodents yield | F |
| Their treasures centrally confined | F |
| In crypts by continental pillars sealed | F |
| What suns and worlds have been thy prey | I |
| Through unhorizoned reaches of the past | F |
| What spheres that now essay | I |
| Time's undimensioned vast | F |
| Shall plunge forgotten to thy gloom at length | J |
| With life that cried its query of the Night | F |
| To ears with silence filled | F |
| What worlds unborn shall dare thy strength | J |
| Girt by a sun's unwearied might | F |
| And dip to darkness when the sun is stilled | F |
| - | |
| O incontestable Abyss | H |
| What light in thine embrace of darkness sleeps | H |
| What blaze of a sidereal multitude | F |
| No peopled world is left to miss | H |
| What motion is at rest within thy deeps | H |
| What gyres of planets long become thy food | F |
| Worlds unconstrainable | F |
| That plunged therein to peace | H |
| Like tempest worn and crew forsaken ships | H |
| And suns that fell | F |
| To huge and ultimate eclipse | H |
| And from the eternal stances found release | H |
| What sound thy gulfs of silence hold | F |
| Stupendous thunder of the meeting stars | H |
| And crash of orbits that diverged | F |
| With Life's thin song are merged | F |
| Thy quietudes enfold | F |
| Paean and threnody as one | A |
| And battle blare of unremembered wars | H |
| With festal songs | H |
| Sung in the Romes of ruined spheres | H |
| And music that belongs | H |
| To undiscoverable younger years | H |
| With words of yesterday | I |
| Ah who may stay | I |
| Thy soundless world devouring tide | F |
| O thou whose hands pluck out the light of stars | H |
| Are worlds but as a destined fruit for thee | C |
| May no sufficient bars | H |
| Nor marks inveterate abide | F |
| As shores to baffle thine unbillowing sea | C |
| Still and unstriving now | K |
| What plottest thou | K |
| Within thy universe ulterior deeps | C |
| Dark as the final lull of suns | C |
| What new advancement of the night | F |
| On citadels of stars around whose might | F |
| Thy slow encroachment runs | C |
| And crouching silence thunder potent sleeps | C |
