Interim Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCCCDEFFEGGGHGHIJ ICKELCCKKCH HCGMGNNM

Darling how near we layA
To Lethe on that dayA
When wandering far amid the wreath d fogB
And through the veiling verdure spring had drawnC
On slopes where fire had ravened years agoneC
We paused awhile and made our bed betweenC
The mounting bushes greenC
And the black fallen logD
Closely more closely everE
Like flames that meet and mingle in blown airF
Mouth drew to mouth bosom to bosom thereF
In the long kiss that could not severE
Sequestered and apartG
In death grey mist and silence deeplier furledG
While faded the wan worldG
In ghostliness and mystery retreatingH
We felt the answering throb of heart to heartG
Like one warm pulse amid oblivion beatingH
And our love seemed a solitary flameI
Soaring from lands of pallid nothingnessJ
That had no bound nor nameI
Where all hours that had beenC
And days to beK
Were part of some abolished calendarE
Where all things fell away and ebbed afarL
As if dissolved withinC
The wavering vapors thinC
Yea the pale mists and life and memoryK
And all things passed before our ecstasyK
Like alien phantoms furtive and unknownC
To their dim tombs returningH
-
O love unquenchable and stilly burningH
The peace at thy white core was made our ownC
A little and we too had surely passedG
With incorporeal easeM
Upon the voidness vastG
Going with those frail vapors like a breathN
Drifting from mortal ecstasy to deathN
Among the ghostly treesM
