Future Pastoral Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM

Dearest today I foundA
A lonely spot such as we two have lovedB
Where two might lie upon Favonian groundA
Peering to faint horizons far removedC
-
A green and gentle fellD
That steepens to a rugged canyon's rimE
Where voices of vague waters fall and swellD
And pines far down in sky blue dimness swimE
-
Toward the sunset landsF
A leafless tree from tender slopes of springG
Holds out its empty boughs like empty handsF
That vainly seek some distance hidden thingG
-
Strange that my wandering feetH
In all the years had never known this placeI
Where beauty with a glamor wild and sweetH
Awaits the final witchcraft of your faceI
-
Upon this secret hillJ
I gave my dark bereavement to the sunK
My sorrow to the flowing air untilJ
Your tresses and the grass were somehow oneK
-
And in my prescient dream I seemed to findL
An unborn joy a future memoryM
Of you and love and sunlight and the windL
On the same grass beneath the selfsame treeM
