Estrangement Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDE FGGF HIIHI have forgot who once had part | A |
In autumn and in autumn's grief | B |
Still the red year illumes the leaf | B |
But not the silence of my heart | A |
- | |
When poplars take the passing fire | C |
And fling it on the windy skies | D |
I listen hushed with lone surmise | D |
In hope to hear a vanished lyre | E |
- | |
Bravely on some autumnal morrow | F |
The topmost leaf shall flame and die | G |
But in my heart an alien sigh | G |
Wakes only with an alien sorrow | F |
- | |
In vain the falling leaves caress | H |
A lute among the roses lost | I |
And the frail touch of petals tossed | I |
Will leave it mute and tremorless | H |
