Eidolon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFE FGH

Chryselephantine clear as carven nameA
Before my gaze thy soul's eidolon standsB
As on the threshold of the frozen landsB
A frozen sun forevermore the sameA
-
All passion that the passive marbles makeC
Imperishable in their shining sleepD
Is thine and all the wan despairs that weepD
With tears of ice and crystal cannot breakC
-
The heart which like a ruby white and rareE
In thy deep breast impenetrably gleamsF
More beautiful than any sphinx and fairE
-
As Aphrodite dead thine image seemsF
Guarding for ever in its golden eyesG
The treasure of intagliate memoriesH
