Pussy Cat's Doing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A ABCBAA DEFEFF GHIHJJ KAAAGG LMNMGG GAAADD

By Susan HartleyA
-
-
'Twas a good little lady fairyA
Who saddled her wee white mouseB
And rode away to the villageC
Long miles from her snug wee houseB
She tied her steed to a flower stalk airyA
And left him there this most careless fairyA
-
In Fairyland no dreadful pussiesD
Do prowl and do growl and slayE
In Fairyland the mice have honorF
And draw the queen's carriage gayE
And the little lady ne'er thought of dangerF
Because on the fence sat a green eyed strangerF
-
But hurried away in a twinklingG
Down a dark and gloomy streetH
Where daily the charm of her presenceI
Made the children's dreams more sweetH
Then Pussy Cat sprang as quick as magicJ
One squeal as I've heard the story tragicJ
-
And down his throat went steed and saddleK
So swiftly and O dear meA
'Stead of her gallant mouse the ladyA
Discovered where he should beA
A monster with blood on his whiskers showingG
And dreadful looks in his eyes so knowingG
-
Back to Fairyland she must walk thenL
In winter no butterflyM
Is sailing that way nor a rose leafN
For fairies to travel byM
She reached there at length but with feet achingG
And her little heart with fear most breakingG
-
And the dreadful story spreadingG
Through Elfland circles may beA
The reason why never a fairyA
In these later years we seeA
While children in all the old old storiesD
Found them as plenty as morning gloriesD
