Pussy Cat's Doing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: A ABCBAA DEFEFF GHIHJJ KAAAGG LMNMGG GAAADDBy Susan Hartley | A |
- | |
- | |
'Twas a good little lady fairy | A |
Who saddled her wee white mouse | B |
And rode away to the village | C |
Long miles from her snug wee house | B |
She tied her steed to a flower stalk airy | A |
And left him there this most careless fairy | A |
- | |
In Fairyland no dreadful pussies | D |
Do prowl and do growl and slay | E |
In Fairyland the mice have honor | F |
And draw the queen's carriage gay | E |
And the little lady ne'er thought of danger | F |
Because on the fence sat a green eyed stranger | F |
- | |
But hurried away in a twinkling | G |
Down a dark and gloomy street | H |
Where daily the charm of her presence | I |
Made the children's dreams more sweet | H |
Then Pussy Cat sprang as quick as magic | J |
One squeal as I've heard the story tragic | J |
- | |
And down his throat went steed and saddle | K |
So swiftly and O dear me | A |
'Stead of her gallant mouse the lady | A |
Discovered where he should be | A |
A monster with blood on his whiskers showing | G |
And dreadful looks in his eyes so knowing | G |
- | |
Back to Fairyland she must walk then | L |
In winter no butterfly | M |
Is sailing that way nor a rose leaf | N |
For fairies to travel by | M |
She reached there at length but with feet aching | G |
And her little heart with fear most breaking | G |
- | |
And the dreadful story spreading | G |
Through Elfland circles may be | A |
The reason why never a fairy | A |
In these later years we see | A |
While children in all the old old stories | D |
Found them as plenty as morning glories | D |
