Only A Matter Of Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDAEFGHDIJ KLMNOPI CQRSTU

DOWN SLIPPING Time sweet swift and shallow streamA
Here like a boulder lies this afternoonB
Across your eager flow So you shall stayC
Deepened and dammed to let me breathe and beD
Your troubled fluency your running gleamA
Shall pause and circle idly still and clearE
The while I lie and search your glassy poolF
Where gently coiling in their lazy roundG
Unseparable minutes drift and swimH
Eddy and rise and brim And I will seeD
How many crystal bubbles of slack TimeI
The mind can hold and cherish in one NowJ
-
Now for one concious vacancy of senseK
The stream is gathered in a depening pondL
Not a mere moving mirror Through the sharpM
Correct reflection of the standing sceneN
The mind can dip and cleanse itself with restO
And see slow spinning in the lucid goldP
Your liquid notes imperishable TimeI
-
It cannot be The runnel slips awayC
The clear smooth downward sluice begins againQ
More brightly slanting for that trembling pauseR
Leaving the sense its conscious vague uneaseS
As when a sonnet flashes on the mindT
Trembles and burns an instant and is goneU
