Elegy Written In A Country Coal-bin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDC EFEF GHGH IJIJ

THE furnace tolls the knell of falling steamA
The coal supply is virtually doneB
And at this price indeed it does not seemA
As though we could afford another tonB
-
Now fades the glossy cherished anthraciteC
The radiators lose their temperatureD
How ill avail on such a frosty nightC
The 'short and simple flannels of the poor '-
-
Though in the icebox fresh and newly laidE
The rude forefathers of the omlet sleepF
No eggs for breakfast till the bill is paidE
We cannot cook again till coal is cheapF
-
Can Morris chair or papier m ch bustG
Revivify the falling pressure gageH
Chop up the grand piano if you mustG
And burn the East Aurora parrot cageH
-
Full many a can of purest keroseneI
The dark unfathomed tanks of Standard OilJ
Shall furnish me and with their aid I meanI
To bring my morning coffee to a boilJ
