The Pangs That Guard The Gates Of Joy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

THE PANGS that guard the gates of joyA
the naked sword that will be kistB
how distant seem d they to the boyA
white flashes in the rosy mistB
-
Ah not where tender play was screen dC
in the light heart of leafy mirthD
of that obdurate might we ween dC
that shakes the sure repose of earthD
-
And sudden twixt a sun and sunE
the veil of dreaming is withdrawnF
lo our disrupt dominionE
and mountains solemn in the dawnF
-
hard paths that chase the dayspring s whiteG
and glooms that hold the nether heatH
oh strange the world upheaved from nightG
oh dread the life before our feetH
