And Shall The Living Waters Heed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHICJCAnd shall the living waters heed | A |
our vain desire insensate Art | B |
and fill the common dust I knead | A |
upgather'd from the trodden mart | B |
As well might they forsake their clime | C |
of virgin green and blue to creep | D |
in cities where our tears are slime | C |
where our unquicken'd bodies sleep | D |
But thou O soul hast stood for sure | E |
in the far paradisal bower | F |
there where our passion sparkles pure | E |
beneath the eternal morning hour | F |
and oft in twilights listening | G |
my sleeping memories are stirr'd | H |
by lavings of the unstaunched spring | G |
upwelling in a sudden word | H |
Why shouldst thou come to squander here | I |
the treasure of those deeps on me | C |
nay where our fount is free and clear | J |
stay there and let me come to thee | C |
