Until The Day Break Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDADD EFEFF GHGHH IJIJJ IHIHH

When will the day bring its pleasureA
When will the night bring its restB
Reaper and gleaner and thresherA
Peer toward the east and the westB
The Sower He knoweth and He knoweth bestB
-
Meteors flash forth and expireC
Northern lights kindle and paleD
These are the days of desireA
Of eyes looking upward that failD
Vanishing days as a finishing taleD
-
Bows down the crop in its gloryE
Tenfold fifty fold hundred foldF
The millet is ripened and hoaryE
The wheat ears are ripened to goldF
Why keep us waiting in dimness and coldF
-
The Lord of the harvest He knowethG
Who knoweth the first and the lastH
The Sower Who patiently sowethG
He scanneth the present and pastH
He saith What thou hast what remaineth hold fastH
-
Yet Lord o'er Thy toil wearied weepersI
The storm clouds hang muttering and frownJ
On threshers and gleaners and reapersI
O Lord of the harvest look downJ
Oh for the harvest the shout and the crownJ
-
Not so saith the Lord of the reapersI
The Lord of the first and the lastH
O My toilers My weary My weepersI
What ye have what remaineth hold fastH
Hide in My heart till the vengeance be pastH
