I would not if I could undo my pastB
Tho' for its sake my future is a blankC
My past for which I have myself to thankC
For all its faults and follies first and lastB
I would not cast anew the lot once castB
Or launch a second ship for one that sankC
Or drug with sweets the bitterness I drankC
Or break by feasting my perpetual fastB
I would not if I could for much more dearD
Is one remembrance than a hundred joysE
More than a thousand hopes in jubileeF
Dearer the music of one tearful voiceG
That unforgotten calls and calls to meF
Follow me here rise up and follow hereH

What seekest thou far in the unknown landI
In hope I follow joy gone on beforeJ
In hope and fear persistent more and moreJ
As the dry desert lengthens out its sandI
Whilst day and night I carry in my handI
The golden key to ope the golden doorJ
Of golden home yet mine eye weepeth soreJ
For long the journey is that makes no standI
And who is this that veiled doth walk with theeF
Lo this is Love that walketh at my rightK
One exile holds us both and we are boundL
To selfsame home joys in the land of lightK
Weeping thou walkest with him weepeth heF
Some sobbing weep some weep and make no soundL

A dimness of a glory glimmers hereH
Thro' veils and distance from the space remoteM
A faintest far vibration of a noteM
Reaches to us and seems to bring us nearD
Causing our face to glow with braver cheerD
Making the serried mist to stand afloatM
Subduing languor with an antidoteM
And strengthening love almost to cast out fearD
Till for one moment golden city wallsN
Rise looming on us golden walls of homeO
Light of our eyes until the darkness fallsN
Then thro' the outer darkness burdensomeP
I hear again the tender voice that callsN
Follow me hither follow rise and comeP
