The Frog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEEFG HH IIJJKKBBB LM NMOOPP KKOOQM

Contemptuous of his home beyondA
The village and the village pondA
A large souled Frog who spurned each byewayB
Hopped along the imperial highwayB
-
Nor grunting pig nor barking dogC
Could disconcert so great a frogD
The morning dew was lingering yetE
His sides to cool his tongue to wetE
The night dew when the night should comeF
A travelled frog would send him homeG
-
Not so alas the wayside grassH
Sees him no more not so alasH
-
A broadwheeled waggon unawaresI
Ran him down his joys his caresI
From dying choke one feeble croakJ
The Frog's perpetual silence brokeJ
Ye buoyant Frogs ye great and smallK
Even I am mortal after allK
My road to Fame turns out a wry wayB
I perish on this hideous highwayB
Oh for my old familiar byewayB
-
The choking Frog sobbed and was goneL
The waggoner strode whistling onM
-
Unconscious of the carnage doneN
Whistling that waggoner strode onM
Whistling it may have happened soO
A Froggy would a wooing goO
A hypothetic frog trolled heP
Obtuse to a realityP
-
O rich and poor O great and smallK
Such oversights beset us allK
The mangled frog abides incogO
The uninteresting actual frogO
The hypothetic frog aloneQ
Is the one frog we dwell uponM
