Sweet Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDDAB AEEAFGAE AHHCIIAH

The sweetest blossoms dieA
And so it was that going day by dayB
Unto the church to praise and prayB
And crossing the green churchyard thoughtfullyC
I saw how on the graves the flowersD
Shed their fresh leaves in showersD
And how their perfume rose up to the skyA
Before it passed awayB
-
The youngest blossoms dieA
They die and fall and nourish the rich earthE
From which they lately had their birthE
Sweet life but sweeter death that passeth byA
And is as though it had not beenF
All colors turn to greenG
The bright hues vanish and the odors flyA
The grass hath lasting worthE
-
And youth and beauty dieA
So be it O my God Thou God of truthH
Better than beauty and than youthH
Are Saints and Angels a glad companyC
And Thou O Lord our Rest and EaseI
Art better far than theseI
Why should we shrink from our full harvest whyA
Prefer to glean with RuthH
