St. Barnabas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CDDCCDDCEAFEGA

Now when we had discovered Cyprus we left it on the left hand Acts xxiA
We sailed under Cyprus because the winds were contrary Acts xxviiB
-
St Barnabas with John his sister's sonC
Set sail for Cyprus leaving in their wakeD
That chosen Vessel who for Jesus' sakeD
Proclaimed the Gentiles and the Jews at oneC
Divided while united each must runC
His mighty course not hell should overtakeD
And pressing toward the mark must own the acheD
Of love and sigh for heaven not yet begunC
For saints in life long exile yearn to touchE
Warm human hands and commune face to faceA
But these we know not ever met againF
Yet once St Paul at distance overmuchE
Just sighted Cyprus and once more in vainG
Neared it and passed not there his landing placeA
