Passing Away, Saith The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAAAAABA AAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA

Passing away saith the World passing awayA
Chances beauty and youth sapp'd day by dayA
Thy life never continueth in one stayA
Is the eye waxen dim is the dark hair changing to greyA
That hath won neither laurel nor bayA
I shall clothe myself in Spring and bud in MayA
Thou root stricken shalt not rebuild thy decayA
On my bosom for ayeB
Then I answer'd YeaA
-
Passing away saith my Soul passing awayA
With its burden of fear and hope of labour and playA
Hearken what the past doth witness and sayA
Rust in thy gold a moth is in thine arrayA
A canker is in thy bud thy leaf must decayA
At midnight at cockcrow at morning one certain dayA
Lo the Bridegroom shall come and shall not delayA
Watch thou and prayA
Then I answer'd YeaA
-
Passing away saith my God passing awayA
Winter passeth after the long delayA
New grapes on the vine new figs on the tender sprayA
Turtle calleth turtle in Heaven's MayA
Though I tarry wait for Me trust Me watch and prayA
Arise come away night is past and lo it is dayA
My love My sister My spouse thou shalt hear Me sayA
Then I answer'd YeaA
