New Year met me somewhat sadB
Old Year leaves me tiredC
Stripped of favorite things I hadB
Balked of much desiredC
Yet farther on my road to dayD
God willing farther on my wayD
-
New Year coming on apaceE
What have you to give meF
Bring you scathe or bring you graceE
Face me with an honest faceE
You shall not deceive meF
Be it good or ill be it what you willG
It needs shall help me on my roadH
My rugged way to heaven please GodI

Watch with me men women and children dearJ
You whom I love for whom I hope and fearJ
Watch with me this last vigil of the yearJ
Some hug their business some their pleasure schemeK
Some seize the vacant hour to sleep or dreamK
Heart locked in heart some kneel and watch apartL
-
Watch with me blessed spirits who delightM
All through the holy night to walk in whiteM
Or take your ease after the long drawn fightM
I know not if they watch with me I knowN
They count this eve of resurrection slowN
And cry How long with urgent utterance strongO
-
Watch with me Jesus in my lonelinessP
Though others say me nay yet say Thou yesQ
Though others pass me by stop Thou to blessQ
Yea Thou dost stop with me this vigil nightM
To night of pain to morrow of delightM
I Love am Thine Thou Lord my God art mineR

Passing away saith the World passing awayD
Chances beauty and youth sapped day by dayD
Thy life never continueth in one stayD
Is the eye waxen dim is the dark hair changing to grayD
That hath won neither laurel nor bayD
I shall clothe myself in Spring and bud in MayD
Thou root stricken shalt not rebuild thy decayD
On my bosom for ayeS
Then I answered YeaD
-
Passing away saith my Soul passing awayD
With its burden of fear and hope of labor and playD
Hearken what the past doth witness and sayD
Rust in thy gold a moth is in thine arrayD
A canker is in thy bud thy leaf must decayD
At midnight at cock crow at morning one certain dayD
Lo the Bridegroom shall come and shall not delayD
Watch thou and prayD
Then I answered YeaD
-
Passing away saith my God passing awayD
Winter passeth after the long delayD
New grapes on the vine new figs on the tender sprayD
Turtle calleth turtle in Heaven's MayD
Though I tarry wait for Me trust Me watch and prayD
Arise come away night is past and lo it is dayD
My love My sister My spouse thou shalt hear Me sayD
Then I answered YeaD
