We meet in joy though we part in sorrowA
We part to night but we meet to morrowA
Be it flood or blood the path that's trodB
All the same it leads home to GodB
Be it furnace fire voluminousC
One like God's Son will walk with usC
-
What are these that glow from afarD
These that lean over the golden barD
Strong as the lion pure as the doveE
With open arms and hearts of loveE
They the blessed ones gone beforeF
They the blessed forevermoreF
Out of great tribulation they wentG
Home to their home of Heaven contentG
Through flood or blood or furnace fireF
To the rest that fulfils desireF
-
What are these that fly as a cloudH
With flashing heads and faces bowedH
In their mouths a victorious psalmI
In their hands a robe and a palmJ
Welcoming angels these that shineK
Your own angel and yours and mineK
Who have hedged us both day and nightL
On the left hand and on the rightL
Who have watched us both night and dayM
Because the Devil keeps watch to slayM
-
Light above light and Bliss beyond blissN
Whom words cannot utter lo Who is ThisN
As a King with many crowns He standsO
And our names are graven upon His handsO
As a Priest with God uplifted eyesP
He offers for us His SacrificeQ
As the Lamb of God for sinners slainR
That we too may live He lives againS
As our Champion behold Him standT
Strong to save us at God's Right HandT
-
God the Father give us graceU
To walk in the light of Jesus' FaceU
God the Son give us a partV
In the hiding place of Jesus' HeartV
God the Spirit so hold us upW
That we may drink of Jesus' cupW
-
Death is short and life is longX
Satan is strong but Christ more strongX
At His Word Who hath led us hitherF
The Red Sea must part hither and thitherF
At His Word Who goes before us tooY
Jordan must cleave to let us throughY
-
Yet one pang searching and soreF
And then Heaven forevermoreF
Yet one moment awful and darkZ
Then safety within the Veil and the ArkZ
Yet one effort by Christ His graceU
Then Christ forever face to faceU
-
God the Father we will adoreF
In Jesus' Name now and evermoreF
God the Son we will love and thankA2
In this flood and on the farther bankA2
God the Holy Ghost we will praiseB2
In Jesus' Name through endless daysB2
God Almighty God Three in OneC2
God Almighty God aloneD2
