L. E. L. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BABACCC DEDACCC FAFAGGG GAGAGGG HIHAJJJ JIJAJJJ

Whose heart was breaking for a little loveA
-
-
Down stairs I laugh I sport and jest with allB
But in my solitary room aboveA
I turn my face in silence to the wallB
My heart is breaking for a little loveA
Though winter frosts are doneC
And birds pair every oneC
And leaves peep out for springtide is begunC
-
I feel no spring while spring is wellnigh blownD
I find no nest while nests are in the groveE
Woe's me for mine own heart that dwells aloneD
My heart that breaketh for a little loveA
While golden in the sunC
Rivulets rise and runC
While lilies bud for springtide is begunC
-
All love are loved save only I their heartsF
Beat warm with love and joy beat full thereofA
They cannot guess who play the pleasant partsF
My heart is breaking for a little loveA
While beehives wake and whirrG
And rabbit thins his furG
In living spring that sets the world astirG
-
I deck myself with silks and jewelryG
I plume myself like any mated doveA
They praise my rustling show and never seeG
My heart is breaking for a little loveA
While sprouts green lavenderG
With rosemary and myrrhG
For in quick spring the sap is all astirG
-
Perhaps some saints in glory guess the truthH
Perhaps some angels read it as they moveI
And cry one to another full of ruthH
Her heart is breaking for a little loveA
Though other things have birthJ
And leap and sing for mirthJ
When spring time wakes and clothes and feeds the earthJ
-
Yet saith a saint Take patience for thy scatheJ
Yet saith an angel Wait for thou shalt proveI
True best is last true life is born of deathJ
O thou heart broken for a little loveA
Then love shall fill thy girthJ
And love make fat thy dearthJ
When new spring builds new heaven and clean new earthJ
