An Immurata Sister Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDDCEFFE GHGH AIIAJDJJ KLKL

Life flows down to death we cannot bindA
That current that it should not fleeB
Life flows down to death as rivers findA
The inevitable seaB
-
Men work and think but women feelC
And so for I'm a woman ID
And so I should be glad to dieD
And cease from impotence of zealC
And cease from hope and cease from dreadE
And cease from yearnings without gainF
And cease from all this world of painF
And be at peace among the deadE
-
Hearts that die by death renew their youthG
Lightened of this life that doubts and diesH
Silent and contented while the TruthG
Unveiled makes them wiseH
-
Why should I seek and never findA
That something which I have not hadI
Fair and unutterably sadI
The world hath sought time out of mindA
The world hath sought and I have soughtJ
Ah empty world and empty ID
For we have spent our strength for noughtJ
And soon it will be time to dieJ
-
Sparks fly upward toward their fount of fireK
Kindling flashing hoveringL
Kindle flash my soul mount higher and higherK
Thou whole burnt offeringL
