On the wind of JanuaryA
Down flits the snowB
Travelling from the frozen NorthC
As cold as it can blowB
Poor robin redbreastD
Look where he comesE
Let him in to feel your fireF
And toss him of your crumbsE
-
On the wind in FebruaryA
Snow flakes float stillG
Half inclined to turn to rainH
Nipping dripping chillG
Then the thaws swell the streamsI
And swollen rivers swell the seaA
If the winter ever endsJ
How pleasant it will beA
-
In the wind of windy MarchK
The catkins drop downL
Curly caterpillar likeM
Curious green and brownL
With concourse of nest building birdsN
And leaf buds by the wayO
We begin to think of flowersP
And life and nuts some dayO
-
With the gusts of AprilQ
Rich fruit tree blossoms fallR
On the hedged in orchard greenS
From the southern wallR
Apple trees and pear treesT
Shed petals white or pinkU
Plum trees and peach treesT
While sharp showers sink and sinkU
-
Little brings the May breezeT
Beside pure scent of flowersP
While all things wax and nothing wanesV
In lengthening daylight hoursP
Across the hyacinth bedsW
The wind lags warm and sweetD
Across the hawthorn topsX
Across the blades of wheatD
-
In the wind of sunny JuneY
Thrives the red rose cropZ
Every day fresh blossoms blowB
While the first leaves dropZ
White rose and yellow roseA2
And moss rose choice to findD
And the cottage cabbage roseA2
Not one whit behindD
-
On the blast of scorched JulyB2
Drives the pelting hailC2
From thunderous lightning clouds that blotD
Blue heaven grown lurid paleC2
Weedy waves are tossed ashoreD2
Sea things strange to sightD
Gasp upon the barren shoreD2
And fade away in lightD
-
In the parching August windD
Cornfields bow the headD
Sheltered in round valley depthsE2
On low hills outspreadD
Early leaves drop loitering downL
Weightless on the breezeT
First fruits of the year's decayO
From the withering treesT
-
In brisk wind of SeptemberF
The heavy headed fruitsF2
Shake upon their bending boughsG2
And drop from the shootsF2
Some glow golden in the sunH2
Some show green and streakedD
Some set forth a purple bloomI2
Some blush rosy cheekedD
-
In strong blast of OctoberF
At the equinoxJ2
Stirred up in his hollow bedD
Broad ocean rocksJ2
Plunge the ships on his bosomK2
Leaps and plunges the foamL2
It's O for mothers' sons at seaA
That they were safe at homeL2
-
In slack wind of NovemberF
The fog forms and shiftsM2
All the world comes out againN2
When the fog liftsM2
Loosened from their sapless twigsO2
Leaves drop with every gustD
Drifting rustling out of sightD
In the damp or dustD
-
Last of all DecemberF
The year's sands nearly runH2
Speeds on the shortest dayO
Curtails the sunH2
With its bleak raw windD
Lays the last leaves lowB
Brings back the nightly frostsP2
Brings back the snowB
