A Prodigal Son Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBB DEDEE FGFGG HIHII

Does that lamp still burn in my Father's houseA
Which he kindled the night I went awayB
I turned once beneath the cedar boughsC
And marked it gleam with a golden rayB
Did he think to light me home some dayB
-
Hungry here with the crunching swineD
Hungry harvest have I to reapE
In a dream I count my Father's kineD
I hear the tinkling bells of his sheepE
I watch his lambs that browse and leapE
-
There is plenty of bread at homeF
His servants have bread enough and to spareG
The purple wine fat froths with foamF
Oil and spices make sweet the airG
While I perish hungry and bareG
-
Rich and blessed those servants ratherH
Than I who see not my Father's faceI
I will arise and go to my FatherH
Fallen from sonship beggared of graceI
Grant me Father a servant's placeI
